REGAL Students Day 2019
REGAL Students Day 2019
The 16th edition of REGAL Students’ Day (JER) took place on October 8th and 9th at Laval University.
First of all, the Aluminum Research Centre – REGAL wishes to thank its generous sponsors, without whom the event could not be held in the current scale. In recent years, the JER has grown at a blistering speed, becoming an increasingly popular event on the aluminum scene! Thanks to AAC, AluQuébec | CeAl, Alcoa, Alouette, Quebec Metallurgy Center (CMQ), CRITM, CQRDA, Elysis, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Hatch, Metra Aluminum, Rio Tinto and ICSOBA.
The first day of activities was organized in partnership with AluQuébec and consisted of a 5-part training program, where more than 130 people benefited from the knowledge of various experts in the aluminum field. The latter came from academic and industrial spheres: Prof. Raynald Gauvin (McGill University), Pr. Carl Duchesne (Laval University), Prof. Geir Ringen (Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)), Prof. Laszlo Kiss (UQAC) and Dr. Nick Parson (RioTinto).
The next day, 190 participants were present to hear our graduate students highlight their research: 6 shared their knowledge through a conference and 62 others did so in the form of a scientific poster. In recognition of excellence, the JER Poster Contest allowed 14 students to receive an award of excellence, all given on behalf of one of the event’s sponsors. It is important to highlight the participation of 32 evaluators, without whom the excellence of the students could not have been recognized.
In addition, the participants were invited to networking events where student / researcher / industry exchanges were put forward.
Finally, it is essential to highlight the presence of a delegation from NTNU, where 13 students / professors were able to realize the wealth of research done by members of REGAL. It should be noted that the day before the JER was held the Summer School organized as part of the Norwegian-Canadian Partnership in Research and Education in Primary Production of Aluminum partnership (CaNAl).
